Infant Massage Treatment

Massage is a wonderful way of communicating with a baby and strengthens the bond between the parent and child and helps develop a sense of security within the family.

Benefits of Infant Massage

Touch is the most developed of the senses and many studies on babies and children in European and third world countries show that babies that are cradled, sung to, stroked and caressed and carried by their mother and other family members have remarkably well-advanced overall development.

Benefits of Infant Massage for a baby include:

  • Helping adapt to his new environment.
  • Enhancing his feeling of being loved, respected and secure.
  • Promoting relaxation which can improve quality of sleep.
  • Coping with stressful situations.
  • Reducing the discomfort of colic, wind and constipation.
  • Developing body mind awareness and coordination.
  • Associating touch with positive handling.

Benefits for Parents and The Course

By joining an infant massage group it gives parents an opportunity to meet and exchange ideas and give and receive support.

Infant massage is very simple to do and requires very little extra "equipment" and costs virtually nothing, except time. The long- and short-term benefits for the baby are enormous and it also has a positive impact on parents too. These include:

  • Increasing confidence in handling baby.
  • Understanding baby's non-verbal communication.
  • Relaxing with their baby.
  • Developing a feeling of closeness with their baby.
  • Reduces the effect of post-natal depression.

This course will enable you to spend quality time wth your baby. Each week you will learn how to massage a different part of your baby's body so that by the end of the course you will know the strokes for the whole body. Classes can start once your baby is 6 weeks old.
